How Circle Crop Works
Drop your image, set the circle diameter, and click "Crop to Circle." Pixotter crops a square region from your image, then applies a circular alpha mask — everything outside the circle becomes transparent. The result is saved as PNG to preserve the transparency.
Common Uses for Circular Images
- Profile pictures — LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, GitHub, and most social platforms display avatars as circles
- Team pages — Websites commonly show team member headshots as circular thumbnails
- Social media graphics — Circular images stand out in feeds dominated by rectangular content
- Presentations — Circular headshots in slides look more polished than square crops
- Email signatures — A circular portrait in your email signature adds a professional touch
Why PNG for Circle Crops?
Circular crops require transparency — the corners outside the circle must be see-through. JPEG does not support transparency, so Pixotter automatically outputs circular crops as PNG with full alpha channel support. The transparent areas blend seamlessly with any background color.
